The Dominance of America’s False Narratives

Even US-Based Russian News Services Repeat American False Narratives

Paul Craig Roberts

Those Americans who have gained awareness that the US print and TV media and NPR are lie machines can find, if they search hard enough, a few websites, such as this one, and podcasters, such as Greg Hunter USA Watchdog, that endeavor to provide real, valid information as opposed to the narratives constructed to serve the  agendas of the ruling elite.

Two English language Russian media, RT and Sputnik, and the new US Epoch Times also provide information not provided by the US media.  I check RT, Sputnik, Epoch Times several times each day.  Information appears that cannot be found anywhere in Western media.  But what I have noticed is that these alternative news sites also convey the fake Western narratives.  Russia based news organizations are very much under the influence of Western presstitutes.

For example, this Sputnik report — https://sputniknews.com/20221016/george-floyd-didnt-die-of-hypoxia-claims-kanye-west-1101894716.html –sees controversy in Kanye West’s podcast statement that  “George Floyd didn’t die of hypoxia” but of overdose on fentanyl.  Kanye says that Officer Chauvin’s knee “wasn’t even on his [Floyd’s] neck.”

Whoever wrote the Sputnik report, apparently disputing Kanye West, is a victim of a false narrative. The Sputnik report goes on to assert that: “On 25 May 2020, Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes as the latter was handcuffed and lying on his stomach.”  This is a lie and is irresponsible reporting on the part of Sputnik News.

The famous video taken by a teenage black girl that seemingly shows Officer Chauvin with his knee on Floyd’s neck suffers from what is known as “perspective distortion.”  The close up videos taken by police cameras show that Chauvin’s knee is on Floyd’s shoulder, the correct police restraint technique.

This came out at Chauvin’s trial, but by that time Chauvin had already been convicted by the media in violation of the traditional rule that the media may not declare guilt prior to the jury’s decision or the charge is thrown out and the case dismissed.  This rule served to prevent the jury pool from being biased by proclaiming guilt prior to trial and conviction.  In my youth a judge would have dismissed all charges against Chauvin in view of the fact that he was convicted by the media prior to his trial.

By the time of Chauvin’s trial Black Lives Matter and Antifa had burned down and looted the business centers of a large number of Democrat governed US cities.  The two organizations were issuing threats, and no jury member was prepared to suffer the consequences of attending to the evidence and declaring Officer Chauvin innocent, which the evidence clearly shows he was.

Why did Sputnik news fail to see the real story, which is that American justice has failed and an innocent man has been imprisoned?  Not only was there no knee on Floyd’s neck, the medical report showed that Floyd had more than twice the deadly dose of fentanyl.  But an irresponsible American media, corrupt prosecutors, and a breakdown in the requirements for a fair trial ruined the lives of Chauvin and his fellow police officers who are being prosecuted as accessories to the “crime.”

The answer is that Sputnik’s employees read and hear the lie machine that is the US media and accept what they hear as long as it is not anti-Russian propaganda.

So, here is Russia at war with the West, whether or nor Russia realizes it, and here is the Russian press accepting false American narratives instead of exposing the injustice and wrongful conviction of Officer Chauvin.

Of course, probably the explanation is that the US-based Russian news organizations know that if they don’t keep their horns pulled in, Washington will close them down.  So they have to make compromises in order to exist.

This is the state of “free speech” in the West today.
