Merkel blows a hole in Washington’s Nord Stream narrative

All governments know that Washington blew up the Nord Stream pipeline, and now former German Chancellor Merkel gives the reason.

The Russian government knows full well that Washington destroyed its property.  By failing to guard the pipeline with naval patrol after Biden said he would destroy it, and by failure to retaliate, Putin convinced Washington that he is a pushover.  Thus, the provocations increased. Putin is encouraging more provocations by proclaiming how interested he is to negotiate the prevention of Russia’s victory in Ukraine.  

Why does the Russian government believe that appeasing the West is a good policy?  It must be that the Russians believe the fantasy that there is still somewhere in Western governments a moral component.  I wish Russia good luck in finding it.
