The chances are substantial that a major war will result from continuing Israeli/US provocations of Iran. As I have noted for several years, a mutual defense treaty between Russia, China, and Iran would preclude Israeli attacks on Iran that are provoking a major war. However, Putin prefers halfway measures that leave the initiative in Israel and Washington’s hands.

Whitney describes a de facto pact between Russia, China, and Iran. Why not make it explicit? An announced mutual defense pact would stop Israel’s provocations that are leading to war and dragging the United States into the war. The reactive postures of Russia, China, and Iran are maximizing the likelihood of a major war.
