A Conversation: Paul Craig Roberts and Noam Chomsky

Rob Kall of OpEdNews arranged a conversation between myself and Noam Chomsky.

It is available as an audio podcast: http://www.opednews.com/Podcast/Rob-Kall-Moderates-a-Conve-by-Rob-Kall-Capitalism_Capitalism-Over-Humanity_China-Russia-Alliance_Corporatism-140923-711.html [1]

I very much appreciate Noam Chomsky’s courage and involvement. Professor Chomsky’s work in linguistics made him a major academic figure. He could have lived a very comfortable university life, but he took his commitment to truth into the broader world, was arrested in war protests, made President Nixon’s enemies list, and became the prominent activist and public intellectual of our time. Few Americans have demonstrated the intelligence and bravery of Noam Chomsky or supplied such participatory leadership in main events of our time.

Unjustified authority, Chomsky says, is inherently illegitimate. The authority that Washington has assumed over other countries, invading, bombing, and sanctioning, and over the American people by eroding their civil liberties guaranteed by the US Constitution, is unjustified and illegitimate. The clearest fact of our time is the illegitimacy of the government in Washington.
